August Race™ Co-Founder Peter Wallbank Welcomed as a Member of the Royal Society of Chemistry
At August Race™, product development extends far beyond creating high-performance formulations. Behind every product is a commitment to scientific research, environmental responsibility and supporting the wider marine industry through evidence-based innovation.
Alongside developing new technologies and environmentally responsible formulations, our team is actively involved in advancing technical understanding across the leisure marine sector. This includes contributing to industry discussions, producing technical guidance and helping improve awareness of established environmental legislation, including MARPOL Annex V, ensuring that complex regulatory requirements can be translated into practical, real-world solutions.
This commitment to science and innovation is reflected in the work of August Race™ Co-Founder and Technical Director, Peter Wallbank, who has now been welcomed as a Member of the Royal Society of Chemistry (MRSC).
Peter has spent more than 25 years working within the chemical industry, specialising in the development of high-performance formulations for both industrial and marine applications. In recent years, much of his work has focused on improving environmental performance without compromising product effectiveness, helping to bridge the gap between scientific research, legislation and practical implementation.
His current research centres on PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances)—often referred to as "forever chemicals"—with particular emphasis on identifying potential areas of concern within the leisure marine sector and supporting the development of practical, evidence-based alternatives. This work complements August Race's wider commitment to producing biodegradable, environmentally responsible products that help minimise their impact on both land and water.
Beyond product development, Peter works alongside manufacturers, distributors, trade associations and other industry stakeholders to encourage a greater understanding of environmental compliance and sustainability across the global leisure marine industry.
Commenting on his admission to the Royal Society of Chemistry, Peter said:
"Science has always been at the heart of everything we do at August Race. Becoming a Member of the Royal Society of Chemistry is a tremendous honour, but more importantly it reflects the importance of applying sound science to develop products that genuinely improve environmental outcomes while delivering exceptional performance for our customers."
Membership of the Royal Society of Chemistry recognises Peter's ongoing contribution to the chemical sciences and reinforces August Race's commitment to evidence-led innovation, sustainability and responsible product development.
As the company continues to expand internationally through initiatives such as Oceans Assured™ and Outdoor Assured™, scientific integrity remains the foundation upon which every formulation is developed, ensuring customers can have confidence that performance and environmental responsibility go hand in hand.
